One of the main reasons that people have hip or knee pain is from osteoarthritis or "wear and tear" of their joints. The MSK CIAC Hip and Knee Program provides adults with moderate to severe hip or knee osteoarthritis with an assessment to determine if they may need joint replacement surgery.
MSK CIAC is the one point of contact for referrals for adults with moderate to severe osteoarthritis of their hip or knee.
Our region is part of Ontario Health (West) and includes Hamilton, Niagara, Haldimand, Burlington and Brant Region.
Assessments take place in MSK CIAC Hip and Knee Assessment Centres. The MSK CIAC Hip and Knee Program has four Assessment Centres located at hospitals in Hamilton, Brantford, Burlington and Niagara. Patients will be booked for an assessment at the location closest to their home, or they may choose a preferred location, or the first available assessment at any of the locations within the region.
Patients are assessed within four weeks by an Advanced Practice Provider (Physiotherapist) with specialized training in hip and knee osteoarthritis
All patients must be referred to the MSK CIAC program by a physican or primary care provider. Referring providers are to use the standardized MSK CIAC Hip and Knee Referral Form when referring patients.
